End is nigh for BBC World Service Europe transmissions

The BBC World Service have announced on their website that the remaining shortwave transmissions to Europe will end on February 18th.
For anyone who relies on these broadcasts, they provide some alternatives, although suggestions of cable and satellite broadcasts aren't really going to be of much use to European travellers relying on the BBC for news broadcasts, when they're on the road. With the increased potential for Kosovo to become a flashpoint, this may leave a good number of people in the dark, and it strikes me as a particularly short-sighted move.

Apologies for disturbing you but I am working for a programme called Europe Today on the BBC World Service.
My boss has passed on to me your website ShortWWWave and said "track down that person, they seem to know a lot about Shortwave radio. Might good to interview them".
As you are already aware the World Service are to stop transmitting on Short Wave in Europe from Monday and we looking for anyone who might be able to discuss whether this is a bad thing or not. Maybe not many people now left that listen on Short Wave in Europe, are there any at all, for example?
Sincerely
Dominic Martin

You mean, you don't know? You work for the BBC and you don't know whether there is still anyone tuning in on shortwave? Wouldn't the BBC have made at least some effort to find this out before cutting the service?
